Years ago, my husband Hansel and I were watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations where he visited Haiti after a devastating hurricane. In the episode, Anthony walks through a tent city where, despite the destruction and rubble, artists were doing what they do best—creating. Barely a roof over their heads, no clean water in sight, yet there they were, making art with whatever they could find.
My husband, the person who knows me better than anyone, turned to me and said, "That would be you, Connie."
And, honestly? He’s absolutely right.
For as long as I can remember, my painting practice has been my greatest devotion. It’s my first priority—the very thing I do before the world even knows I’m awake. It’s my trusted counsel, the one I turn to when I need clarity or direction. It’s my beloved, always holding me steady in the most miraculous ways. But more than anything, my painting practice has been my anchor—keeping me grounded through life’s uncertainty.
Now, in these times of great change and chaos, artists are needed more than ever. There’s power in our brushes, wisdom in our practice, and a spirit inside us that reaches through the ages—carrying the strength of a long lineage of artists who’ve painted their way through the turbulent unknown themselves.

ARTISTS WHO NEED STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS — ANCHOR is for the brave souls who are ready to make art on their own terms. No cookie-cutter prompts or guidelines here. Expect to come up with your own ideas, share your creative highs and lows with the community, and own your journey. Beginners need not register — at least three years of painting experience under your apron is recommended.

About Connie Solera, Your guide....
I've been painting my whole life. My brush is my constant companion—second only to my breath. Painting, for me, is so much more than making something pretty, unwinding, or passing the time. It’s how I navigate and make sense of life. It’s how I commune with my ancestors, find guidance when things get tough, and offer my unique service to the world.
This spring, I’m bringing ANCHOR to life—a space for artists to find their true north through painting and to deepen their trust in the wisdom of their Artist Soul.
I’ve been teaching art for over 30 years, and ANCHOR feels like one of the most honest, heart-centered workshops I’ve offered in a long time. It’s raw, it’s real, and honestly? It’s a little vulnerable too—but that’s exactly why I'm offering it.
