For as long as I can remember, I feel like I’ve be

For as long as I can remember, I feel like I’ve been carrying this deep longing around when it comes to my art & what I paint. I’m always searching, reaching, yearning for something — some kind of expression I can feel stirring inside me. Some kind of imagery I see in my mind.

In one way, the longing keeps my practice fresh & interesting — it pulls me into trying new things & to experiment. In another way it feels like a trap — like whatever I make never quenches it.

So I’ve decided to start a new body of work all about longing itself. How it feels & what shows up when I allow myself to really feel the longing instead of trying to quench it with another painting. To actually pour my longing into each piece — let the longing itself be my portal in.

What does longing have to show me? To say? What really is longing?

I’ve only just got started but already it feels vulnerable as all hell. It’s taking me into new territory. I’m painting a lot with my bare hands & I’m navigating with putting my feelings first instead of what my mind likes to see on the painting. Wild stuff.

And, if that wasn’t enough! I’m teaching a seven-day workshop called Days of Longing where I’ll guide others on creating a series of paintings around longing too. We start Sept 28th if you feel called to join me. ❤️‍🔥🌀🎨

I’ve been hosting painting retreats every single y

I’ve been hosting painting retreats every single year since 2008…except this past year. I intentionally took a year off of all my traveling & teaching retreats to focus my energy on selling everything we own & moving to Costa Rica.

Now I’m beyond excited to say my break from retreats is officially over 🎉! I’m on the road again. I woke up this morning in a hotel in Albuquerque, NM and first thing I did was paint.

I will be making my way to Taos this afternoon where I’ll be having my own personal solo retreat for a few days before my UNAPOLOGETIC retreat starts Sunday at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House.

UNAPOLOGETIC is a week long retreat focused on creating unconventional self portraits. It’s going to be delicious.

If you’re not a subscriber to my newsletter: PAINT, then you probably have no idea that my family and I sold EVERYTHING we owned & moved to my husband’s home country of Costa Rica. I’ve been chronicling my adventure in my newsletter since last year.

It has been a dream of mine to live in beautiful Costa Rica ever since I first came here with Hansel over twenty five years ago. We’ve been here for almost two weeks now & I still can’t believe this is actually our home!

I feel so grateful, blessed & excited to now be living, painting, exploring, learning, & healing inside the moist, abundant heart of Mother Nature herself & look forward to sharing more here on Instagram as my journey unfolds.

2026 has been quite a year to navigate — not just with the big move, but I had a major surgery this year too that was life changing. Through all of it, I had zero mental bandwidth to share on Instagram, I but now I’m feeling the itch again — so we’ll see how things go. 😝

The first photo here is of my jungle studio that I am intentionally & with great care designing to support my whole mind, body and soul when I create. (I wrote about the details in today’s newsletter.)

As a family we have our own intentions & reasons for moving..but for me, I am very clear. My biggest intention for moving to Costa Rica is to go deeper into my painting practice than I can ever imagine. Even more than that, I am here to understand creativity at its truest essence.

Costa Rica is wild and untamed. Every inch of this blessed country is oozing with life and creative energy and I come here as a true devotee.

The second photo was from my morning walk with Rocket today. Somebody please pinch me! I feel like I’m in a dream — but I know it’s not, because all of my cells are sizzling!
