Step into the quiet, transformative space of the season and
explore the possibilities of ink in six weeks of layered, intuitive drawing.
Into The Liminal is...
Over six weeks, we’ll move through layers of Sumi ink and intention — exploring intuitive drawing through washes, lines, blooms, and drips; building depth with values, patterns, and texture; slowing down with small, intimate drawings; and stretching into bold, expansive marks.
Each session in Into The Liminal invites you to embrace the shadows, linger in the unknown, and discover the subtle magic of mark-making during this mysterious, contemplative time of year.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll emerge with a series of small and large ink drawings and a sketchbook practice rich in layers, rhythm, and the quiet intensity of theses in-between days.
Here's what you will receive:
WEEKLY CIRCLES
Six live Zoom gatherings (1 hour each) where we meet in real time for demos, conversation, and guided exploration. Mondays at 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST. (All circles are recorded and yours to keep.)
Note: our November 17 session will take place on Sunday, November 16 instead.
INK LESSONS
Six pre-recorded modules, each about an hour long, released every Monday after our live circle. These lessons deepen your exploration with layered techniques, demonstrations, and reflections. The first module is available immediately after registration and should be viewed before our opening circle. All lessons are yours to revisit whenever you like.
THE STUDIO SPACE
A private, supportive online classroom where you can share your drawings, ask questions, and witness each other’s breakthroughs — and the occasional beautiful breakdown.
GUIDANCE FROM CONNIE
I’ll be present in the studio, offering thoughtful, personalized feedback to help you discover, name, and nurture your unique voice in ink.
CO-WORKING GATHERING
On Monday, November 24, we’ll come together for a relaxed, informal co-working session — a chance to create side by side, exchange ideas, and sink into the rhythm of making. (This session is not recorded to keep it open and spontaneous.)

Into THe Liminal Curriculum
Below is the curriculum outlining what you can expect over the six weeks of Into The Liminal.
WEEK ONE | Brush Handling & Exploring Techniques
Begin by exploring the language of ink: washes, lines, blooms, and drips. This session is about understanding your tools and discovering how they respond, setting the stage for drawing with intention, curiosity, and trust.
WEEK TWO | Values, Patterns, & Layering
Dive into depth and texture. Experiment with value, pattern, and layering to create atmosphere and dimension, allowing your drawings to gain subtle complexity and quiet energy.
WEEK THREE | Working Small
Focus on small-scale work to slow down and listen deeply. Working intimate allows for delicate observation and a mindful engagement with mark-making.
WEEK FOUR | Co-Working / Independent Practice
A special live creative hangout to catch up, connect, and make some magic together. No agenda, just a cozy come-as-you-are studio session with your fellow artists.
WEEK FIVE | Working BIG
Shift to a larger scale. Embrace expansive gestures, bold marks, and the physical presence of ink across bigger surfaces. Working large encourages freedom, movement, and expressive exploration.
WEEK SIX| Finishing Your Drawing / Moving Forward
Conclude the workshop by refining, reflecting, and considering next steps for your practice. This session helps you bring closure to your current work while deepening your relationship with layered, intuitive drawing.
Into THe Liminal Is For...
This workshop is for artists who want to move through the liminal end of the year with intention, using their creative practice as a way to slow down, listen, and respond. We’ll be working with liquid Sumi ink to create contemplative, intuitive drawings through a slow layering process — one that feels less like rushing toward a finished product and more like meditation on paper.
Into The Liminal is for artists curious about drawing with liquid Sumi ink in nontraditional ways, embracing drips, blooms, and so-called "mistakes" as part of the process. It’s for artists who want their drawings to carry their unique hand, their imagination, and their intuition, rather than replicate someone else’s style.
Into THe Liminal Is NOT For...
This workshop is not for artists looking for tidy, step-by-step instructions or a formula to follow. If you’re hoping to learn how to draw like me — Connie Solera — not gonna happen! Instead I'll be teaching my go-to ink techniques and methods, but you’ll be encouraged to make them your own, not mimic mine.
Into The Liminal is also not for artists used to quick polished results. Into The Liminal is slow, layered, and process-driven. The work here asks for presence, patience, and a willingness to let imperfections guide you. If you prefer control and predictability, you may find Into The Liminal frustrating.
