Two Months Before Departure: Mentoring begins with a self-guided online mini-workshop to kickstart your creative process. This session will help you dream into your body of work, select materials, initiate any necessary research or sketching, and provide valuable guidance on packing and preparing for your Intensive.

During Paint Wisdom: You can anticipate individualized one-on-one and group mentoring designed to support and challenge you. These sessions aim to help you breathe life into your body of work, enhance your skills, and create art with deeper meaning.

An OVER-ABUNDANCE OF STUDIO TIME

At Paint Wisdom, your studio is conveniently located just outside your room with 24-hour access. Each day kicks off with a guided painting session before breakfast. Following breakfast, the morning is dedicated to workshops, painting, and mentoring.

After lunch, the afternoon will include open studio time and we'll be breaking up the energy with casual visits to the natural sites nearby such as the local beach where there are flamingos. During the afternoon I'll be spending some quality one-on-one time with you as well to discuss your work.

Each day concludes with opportunities to discuss and reflect on your body of work before heading to dinner, indulging in a massage, taking a leisurely stroll, or simply enjoying more studio time.

At Masseria Specula, they’re lucky to have three Puglian women cook the authentic Italian recipes that their mothers taught them. To help minimize the impact on the environment, all meals are vegetarian.

Two of the nights we'll take a 30 minute drive into the nearby town and dine out in a few popular restaurants with the locals.

Registration for Paint Wisdom Italy is $4500 - $4950 USD depending on lodging.

A Deposit of $2000 will save your spot.

The remaining balance of $2500- $2950 is due by or on Friday, February 28, 2025. We will reach out to you two weeks before February 28th with your final invoice. If you are not paid in full by Saturday, March 1, 2025 we reserve the right to offer your space to my waiting list and/or the public, and to retain your deposit.

Because registration is highly limited to 10 painters and significant planning goes into this event all deposits and payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.

SUPPLIES

SUPPLIES ARE NOT INCLUDED. YOU MUST PROVIDE YOUR OWN SUBSTRATES & ART SUPPLIES.

For Paint Wisdom Italy you will be deciding on the theme, concepts, and/or intentions behind the body of work you wish to work on — including the supplies you wish to use.

We will discuss supplies and your body of work more thoroughly in the online mini-workshop I have prepared for you. You will receive access to this online mini-workshop on Monday, March 17th.

Basically you will want to bring materials and substrates that you are excited to work with and explore.

The only requirement is to have a designated sketchbook for our morning painting practice. I highly suggest one of the Canon Mixed Media hardcover sketchbooks (THIS ONE or THIS ONE). But any mixed media sketchbook will do.

CONFIRMATION & COMMUNICATION

Within 24 hours of making your deposit you will receive a welcome email. This is your registration confirmation and contains helpful info to help you start planning your trip to Italy. Please keep this email in a safe place. It is recommended that you print it out.
IMPORTANT: All retreat information will be emailed to the email address you used to register with. If you require the materials to be sent to an alternate email address, please email Support@ConnieSolera.com and let us know right away.

MANDATORY TRAVEL INSURANCE | COVID-19 POLICY

Travel insurance is mandatory for attending Paint Wisdom Italy to cover any complications, illnesses, or injuries that may occur. This includes situations where you need to cancel because you contracted COVID or are showing symptoms. Do your research before purchasing; we recommend World Nomads or Trawick International. It's best to purchase travel insurance sooner rather than later to receive full coverage.
You will be required to sign a release form before attending showing proof of travel insurance.

LODGING & MEALS

At Paint Wisdom Italy you have a choice between single or double occupancy lodging based on availability. Each of the rooms at Masseria Specula are uniquely renovated and depending on the room you choose come with a single or double bed.
An additional four rooms located at the Villa across the street from Masseria Specula have been added. Each space includes a private bedroom with full size bed, shared bathroom, shared living area, and shared pool. The villa is a quick and easy walk from Masseria Specula where all meals, workshops, and studio will be located.
Each room has WiFi, towels, toiletries, a hair drier, heating and air conditioning.
You also receive 24 hour access to the studio space, rooftop patio with amazing view, various private gardens and the beach is just a 15 minute walk away.
Also included in the Paint Wisdom Italy registration is 6 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 6 dinners, snacks and refreshments during the day including coffee, water, and tea.
Wine will be served during dinner service at Masseria Specula.
All meals served at Masseria Specula are vegetarian and traditional Puglian cuisine cooked by two local chefs using regional ingredients.
Masseria Specula is UNABLE to accommodate food restrictions.
Two of the evenings we will go to a local restaurant for dinner where you will have the option to choose a meat dish.
Alcoholic drinks are NOT included with the meals at the restaurant. If you care to drink alcohol while at the restaurant, you must pay for it separately.

TRAVEL TIPS

You DO need a passport that doesn't expire for six months from your date of entry to Italy.
As of this moment, Americans do NOT need a visa to enter Italy. However, starting in May 2025, a new screening system called ETIAS will come into effect, and Americans will need to pre-register before traveling to any of the countries in Europe. CLICK HERE for more information.
There are two airports in Puglia. You are encouraged to fly into the Brindisi Airport (BDS).
From the US, it is best is to fly into Rome or Milan, and get a connecting flight to Brindisi.
It is a 50 minute drive from the Brindisi Airport to Masseria Specula. If you are unable to make the prearranged shuttle, we can help you schedule a driver/shuttle, but the cost is NOT included in your registration.
Airport transfer to/from Brindisi Airport (BDS) at prearranged times will be available.
Recommendations of local places to stay before/after Paint Wisdom Italy are available after you register.

A LITTLE ABOUT PUGLIA, ITALY

Puglia is located in the southern part of Italy, forming the "heel" of the country's boot-shaped peninsula.
Puglia, bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Ionian Sea to the southeast, boasts over 800 kilometers (about 500 miles) of coastline, with crystal-clear waters and beautiful beaches.
Due to its position in the southeastern part of Italy, Puglia is relatively close to Greece and Albania across the Adriatic Sea, facilitating cultural and historical exchanges over centuries.
Unlike many other regions in Italy, Puglia is predominantly flat and known for its fertile plains, particularly the Tavoliere delle Puglie, Italy's second-largest plain.
Puglia is one of Italy’s largest producers of olive oil, with over 60 million olive trees. Some of the olive trees are centuries old, producing high-quality extra virgin olive oil.
The region is famous for its unique Trulli houses, especially in the town of Alberobello. These traditional limestone dwellings with conical roofs are a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Puglia is steeped in history, with numerous ancient ruins, medieval castles, and baroque architecture, reflecting its Greek, Roman, and Norman influences.
Puglia’s cuisine is renowned for its simplicity and flavor, focusing on fresh, local ingredients. Signature dishes include orecchiette pasta, burrata cheese, and seafood delicacies.

GUIDED PAINTING PRACTICE | MENTORING | WORKSHOPS | OPEN STUDIO | VISION

At Paint Wisdom Italy I, Connie, will be providing a daily guided painting practice, workshops, and mentoring. Below is a brief description of what you can expect.

GUIDED PAINTING PRACTICE

My absolute favorite time of the day in the studio is early in the morning when the world is just waking up. I use this time to set intentions for my studio practice and to check-in with my Artist Soul. At Paint Wisdom I will be sharing my very intimate morning practice with you from 7 AM to 8 AM. Roll out of bed, grab your sketchbook, and our guided practice will consist of either prompts, guided meditations, breathing exercises and stretching, soft music, and/or writing.

WORKSHOPS

My workshops for Paint Wisdom will consist of juicy discussions, creative exercises, and small group projects intended to expand the way you view your creative practice, support your body of work, deepen your intuitive decision making, and simply have fun!

ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING

At Paint Wisdom you can expect loads of daily one-on-one mentoring where I will meet with you individually and review your work by providing gentle constructive feedback, a different perspective, and inquiry to help you think deeper about the meaning, voice , and reception of your work. I will support you and challenge you to take risks, be more bold in expressing yourself honestly in your work.

GROUP MENTORING

One of my favorite forms of mentoring is group mentoring where including various points-of-views and insights adds to the richness of our process as artists. At Paint Wisdom we are guided by a set of communal guidelines that ensures each artist, no matter where they are in their development and journey, is held and met with kindness, curiosity, and an environment that respects diverse backgrounds, beliefs, political views, and faiths.

OPEN STUDIO

Open studio will be a designated time to work in the studio uninterrupted. I, Connie, will be there to provide any support, feedback, or assistance you may need — but this is a time for you to really sink into your process wholeheartedly.

VISION

Our final Paint Wisdom Vision is held on Friday, May 30th where each artist will share their body of work and receive valuable insight and feedback on it from Connie and the artists in Paint Wisdom.

WHY I CREATED PAINT WISDOM ITALY...

At the spry age of 24, I snagged a shockingly cheap $300 roundtrip ticket to Italy. Armed with nothing but a backpack, I embarked on a solo month-long adventure, determined to see in person all the art I had studied so diligently while earning my art degree.

I bunked in hostels, filled two journals with musings and sketches, feasted my eyes on every painting possible, and—after my funds finally fizzled—I reluctantly headed back home.

There are a million reasons why I fell in love with Italy, but in my heart she will always be where I birthed my Artist Soul.

I remember with vivid clarity that morning atop Florence's Duomo, making a vow to forever heed the whispers of my sweet Artist Soul. I can still see that day in bright colors—the outfit I wore, the look of the sky. Even the transformation I felt as I spiraled down the ancient stairwell of that magnificent cathedral.

From that moment on, my life and career as an artist have danced to the tune of my soul’s whispers and have been tethered tightly to my painting practice.

In May of 2025, I'm making my grand return to Italy, my first visit back since that transformative jaunt.

Furthermore, I am making it a sacred pilgrimage, as it will occur just months before I turn 50. It feels fitting to invite my beloved painters to join me for my first-ever Paint Wisdom Italy.

To be honest, this is something I've been dreaming of for years. I spoke with numerous venues, but none felt like a vessel strong enough to hold the sacredness of this Paint Wisdom journey... until, magically, Carlo from Masseria Specula in Puglia, Italy, approached me.

Masseria Specula is a renovated ancient farmhouse located on 20 hectares of private land in Puglia, right in the heel of Italy's boot! Carlo won my heart with his mission to create a venue that positively contributes to humanity and the environment. They grow their own food, use solar power, conserve the land as gently as possible, and recently added 20 bee hives.

Plus, what made me even more giddy is that they are building a beautiful art studio there following my recommendations — yes, can I get a HOT DAMN!
