Chuck Close is certainly an amazing Artist and has been making his mark in the Art world since the 1960’s. He’s known for painting HUGE–I mean seriously HUGE portrait paintings of friends, family, and fellow Artists. The interesting thing too is that he suffers from prosopagnosia–also known as face blindness–where he has difficulty recognizing faces. But it wasn’t until twenty years into painting portraits that he made a connection that maybe his love for painting portraits stems from his challenge in seeing them. Plus, if that wasn’t enough–in 1988 Mr. Chuck Close experienced a seizure that left him mostly paralyzed from the neck down.
What I love about him and admire so deeply is that even paralyzed he does not let this deter him from painting–and painting HUGE none the less.
His style has certainly evolved from his early days of painting intensely realistic–but so has he.
The video above is just chocked full of inspiration and wisdom—and a total must see. I hope you enjoy his FEARLESS inspiration!
