Video Rewind :: I Want You To Feel My Love

60a24-stills

Years ago Hansel purchased all the fixings for a professional photo shoot.  You know–the lighting and the pristine white backdrop and all that good stuff.

And for years Hansel has tried to convince me that I should make my videos sitting in front of that pristine white backdrop.

It would look more professional, some might say.

And maybe that’s true.

But for me, when I make a video and I’m intentionally speaking to YOU, I want you to feel my heart first and foremost.

I want you to feel like you’re sitting across from me in my studio–or as in the still frames above, in my very own living room.

I want you to feel comfortable, safe, welcomed, and most of all loved.

I want you to feel my love.

For me, the only way I can do that is to actually imagine that you are sitting across from me.  That we are in my studio or living room together.  That I’ve welcomed you in, prepared some tea, and invited you to make yourself at home.

So sitting in front of a pristine white backdrop would just feel silly to me.  I wouldn’t be able to shake the feeling of trying to be something I’m not.

And maybe I risk coming across as an amateur or less professional than others, but that’s the risk I’m willing to take.

My interest lies cozy and sweet in authenticity and not sitting on the surface of some shallow brand identity.
