It All Ended & Started With A Butterfly
Published on November 24, 2015
Since sharing a peek into my living room in yesterday’s blog post, I’ve received tons of emails asking me about my butterfly paintings.
I had to do a little digging through the archives — all the way back to August of 2009 actually. That was the Summer creative hearts from all over the globe worked their way through Keri Smith’s Wreck This Journal as part of Jamie Ridler‘s online book club. I personally used this project to experiment with creating videos and simply killing a whole lot of time on my hands since I was on summer break. (Back then I was a full time art teacher in a public school and not a Mama yet either!)
Little did I honestly know that this would be the start of my career working online. Shortly after creating my series of Wreck This Journal Videos — I was bombarded with emails from peeps asking if I teach online.
Funny thing is that I never even took an online workshop — but I didn’t let that discourage me.
Once school was back in session I somehow used every spare moment I had (and believe me, I mean every spare moment — including the couple seconds between classes or even my lunch break) to create my very first online workshop: Art Journal Love Letters.
It was a huge thrill when I put it up for sale and it sold to over 200 peeps!
But it also came with a huge learning curve.
I created that whole damn four week course ahead of time and then on the day before it launched my computer crashed and every video, written content, and photos vanished. Gone. Poof. Good bye. Adios.
So I cashed in my whole savings, purchased my first Mac, and still launched on time! This time I created the content week-by-week and I think it was actually better then my initial draft.
Anyways, I can’t believe that was way back in 2009 — what a trip it’s all been!
Now, since so many of you so sweetly asked — below is a video that shows my “Big Finale” where I create my butterfly paintings where everything ended and started in a sense.
Enjoy and get painting!
