Hi there, Magical Maker!

Are you having fun with 21 SECRETS Face Time? Have you tried creating faces outside of your comfort zone yet? (For me, that would include any type of face!)

Today’s Spotlight artist—Cristin Chambers—is just the one to nurture creating with reckless abandon. Her Face-Time lesson, Double Vision, proves that anything goes in art! When I learned she began her artful journey as a tattoo artist, it made perfect sense to me as I see fantastical imagery run through the veins of her art today. Cristin has a gentle, loving spirit to her style of instruction and I know you’re going to love creating alongside her. Let’s discover more about her here.

How have your creative pursuits morphed or changed over the years?

My creative pursuits have very much morphed! I first began my “full-time artist” exploration as a tattoo artist. That turned into traditional artist—and then online teaching!

Is there a certain new-to-you material that you just can’t get enough of?

I’m always really excited about special paper. Recently, I discovered Shizen Design watercolor paper and I really love it. My other favorite paper is Yasutomo Mineral Paper. It is a dream for layering with watercolors, inks and/or acrylics.

What do you wish you gave yourself more time to explore?

I wish I gave myself more time to explore oil painting. It is something that I really enjoyed in the past but just haven’t been able to dedicate myself to in recent years. I need instant gratification now!

What is the one thing you hope we remember from your workshop?

I hope that my workshop has inspired you to look at the world through a new lens. So what if that lady doesn’t have four eyeballs; in art, she can! 🙂

When are you most courageous?

I am definitely most courageous in my art! In life, I am a pretty cautious, shy and introverted person. I think through every decision carefully and I don’t really make a lot of rash decisions. With art, I just want to create recklessly. I am carefree. I am adventurous. I am an explorer.

I think I need to get my hands on those papers Cristin mentioned to explore a brave artistic adventure of my own!

Dive into 21 SECRETS Face Time today and see what vision comes to you.

Cristin teaches Double Vision in 21 SECRETS Face Time

I love to incorporate expressive eyes into my artwork and in this lesson, we will be creating an imaginative portrait while exploring mixed-media techniques and building layers with intuitive play. As William Shakespeare once said, “Eyes are the window to the soul.” And I agree!
