Hello Sweet Soul!

Only six more days left until you get to see inside 21 SECRETS Face Time!

Today’s Spotlight Artist is Mariëlle Stolp. When I first started seeing Mariëlle’s sweet-faced girls in my Instagram feed, I loved them and knew you would, too! Through her Face Time lesson, Three Sisters, I think you’ll find yourself giddy over the magical world you’ll be entering. Aside from her daughters being her biggest inspiration, let’s see what else we can learn about Mariëlle.

What is your earliest memory of a creative activity you enjoyed?

There is a photograph of me as a little two year old girl drawing on my bed. I can barely hold my pencil, but I am very much into the process! I love that picture!

How are the things you value most in life reflected in what you create?

Nothing is more important to me than my three beautiful, bright, funny and sweet daughters. So it’s not a coincidence that I love drawing girls so much. They are my biggest source of inspiration!

Is there a “secret message” you often want your work to convey?

If it was supposed to be a secret, I am sure I am not hiding it very well… Truth is: I often have a hard time dealing with the complexity and harshness of our modern day world. Creating sweet faces is an escape to a softer and gentler world that I am longing for.

If we were lucky enough to see your workshop’s “outtakes” or “bloopers” video, what would be the scene?

Ha, that is easy: My cats scratching the door or meowing and me complaining about it on camera 🙂 And also, not being a native speaker, I often find myself getting stuck trying to explain something and all that comes out is bumbling.

When are you most courageous?

I am not usually one to take the easy road. I often do things not because they are easy but because they are difficult, at least for me. I am not really an outgoing, extravert; crowds kind of scare me, but still I am out there teaching workshops because the urge to share my joy is stronger than my fear.

How inspiring to hear that her urge to share her joy outweighs her fear of teaching; I love that!

Thanks, for bringing some sweetness into our day, Mariëlle!

About Mariëlle

Hi there! My name is Mariëlle Stolp. I live in the Netherlands with my daughters, my amazingly supportive husband and two naughty cats that are always trying to steal my supplies and ruin my attempts at filming tutorials. If weather permits, I love to take a walk on the nearby beach and collect seashells with my youngest. And if not, I am more than happy to stay in and fill my journals with dreamy, boho-style or fairy-tale girls. I am the oldest of three sisters and as a young girl, my grandmother taught me how to knit, crochet and sew. And now that I am a mother of three beautiful daughters myself, I am teaching them and I love to teach you new things as well!

Mariëlle is teaching Three Sisters in 21 SECRETS Face Time

In this lesson, we will draw and paint three cute, whimsical sisters and will explore the idea of family and heritage by incorporating patterns and embellishments that remind you of your ancestors. I will instruct you in process for creating whimsical faces (with those cute, colorful cheeks!), lovely lace patterns and the perfect finishing touches.
