This is the hardest thing for me as an artist. My battle with wanting to grasp it all and hold on tight. But at the same time, I think it is also the ammunition that propels me forward and fuels my painting process.

Familiarity | 6/101

Now that I’m back in Oaxaca again, today’s 101 Word Painting word fits perfectly: familiarity.

After spending close to dos months here in 2017, there’s a definite familiarity to being back.

My feet curve easily over the cobblestone. Spanish is playing badminton in my head again and the sounds of random fireworks don’t startle me as quickly.

I paint because of the magic. I paint because of the way it makes my past, present, and future blend into one. I paint because on a good day it’s like having access to an ancient oracle that has never swayed me wrong and on a bad day — it’s still a pretty damn good life to wake up as an artist, don’t you think?
